The Cover Photo
The photo on the cover of the book was taken by a sailor on a passing yacht somewhere off the coast of Africa in 1973 using a Polaroid instant camera. Visible in the photo are:
the author: blonde head in the main cabin's entrance
the author's mom: sitting in the cockpit near the aft mast, with her face partially covered by a cable
one of the author's sisters: the toddler whose blonde head is barely visible in the cockpit near her mom
the author's dad: sitting on the aft cabin, holding the tiller, wearing a brown sweater
a crewman, David: sitting on the aft railing near the dinghy

Trivia: The DinghyThe dinghy seen in this photo was not the original dinghy that we left Australia with. This was a replacement dinghy. The original was lost at sea during a cyclone.

Photos and the SeaMany photos taken along the way, including the one of the 150 pound tuna caught on a hand-line, disintegrated in the constant damp of the voyage.
